Vic: Accidental heroes save woman from burning flat
Community spirit and coincidence combined last night to save the life of an elderly
Melbourne woman who was trapped in her burning flat.
Police say the woman awoke to find her Carlton flat alight about 7.40pm (AEST) but
she had accidentally locked herself in.
A passing jogger also noticed the smoke and spoke to the 80-year-old woman trapped inside.
The jogger hailed a tow truck driving past and the driver hooked the chains to the
woman's front door and pulled it off.
A doctor, who amazingly just happened to be in the area, also joined the rescue effort
by helping resuscitate the woman after the jogger brought her out while the fire brigade
arrived to douse the blaze.
A police spokesman has praised the community spirit of the accidental heroes.
