NSW: Sydney's Luna Park reopens
SYDNEY, April 4 AAP - Sydney's Luna Park reopened today after a $100 million revamp.
Officially reopening the amusement park, which first opened its gates in 1935, Premier
Bob Carr praised it as a "unique treasure" and Sydney icon.
"I can't believe that so much of the old Luna Park is here, spruced up, recollecting
the atmosphere of Sydney in the 1930s," Mr Carr said.
The harbourside park, located at the northern end of the Harbour Bridge, will be open
year-round and entry is free.
As well as the traditional rides and amusements, the site also boasts a new conference
centre, dining and exhibition facilities.
It also features a new 2000-seat Big Top, which will host concerts, circuses and live
performances.
The park's managing director, Peter Hearne, said the park's reopening would allow a
new generation of Australians to experience the kind of "innocent fun" that their parents
and grandparents enjoyed.
"I firmly believe that all of Sydney were hoping and wishing that Luna Park as they
remember it, could once again open its doors," Mr Hearne said.
"People in Sydney love Luna Park."
