WA:Barnett tips Abbott to form government
PERTH, Aug 22 AAP - West Australian Premier Colin Barnett says Opposition Leader Tony
Abbott will be able to form a minority government on the election figures as they stand.
The final result had yet to be determined after the extremely close poll, Mr Barnett
told reporters in Perth on Sunday.
"However, I would think on the figures as they stand now, that Tony Abbott will be
able to form a government."
Mr Barnett said it would be a minority government requiring the support of independents.
"That is not certain but it is the most likely outcome at this stage."
Mr Barnett said he was surprised that Labor had "squandered" its chances in the lead-up
to the election.
He congratulated Mr Abbott and his coalition partners for their campaign and enthusiasm.
